MPB so the QQers will really have something to whine about.

(Kidding, of course.)

I appreciate the follow-up post there explaining the reason for this change. Obviously, with the team mostly moving on to GW2, things can't run the way they used to. I can see them doing their best to keep things going in auto-pilot format so people who still want to keep playing GW1 still have things to do at festival time, rather than the festivals just going dark.

so basically what I said already: the live team isnt going to be doing anything for gw1 now that gw2 is almost out--so just forget any 'updates' that you have your heart set on...(elvis has left the building, the fat lady is done singing)....

still hope they do the celestials too since the coding is already there and next year is my year
(wonder what they will have for those of us with all the hats......at least its SOMEthing new!)

I meant Rit Lord Party Healer (something like mbas, recup, rejuv, life, rit lord, signet of creation) Which outputs a crazy amount of AoE heals, single-target and a burst of party-wide health when Life is recharged. You can even remove stacks of conditions. What can the derv do? spam +40hp heals consistently and hit with a scythe... Nice, I guess?

Then UA who carries Seed of Life, divine/heaven's, hex removal/maybe cond removal and a spike heal. How can the dervish compete when a whole bar attempts to replicate what Seed of Life can in one cast?

Heh. So we can get one older hat. Nice to have the opportunity to get that at least.

Not sure what I think about the AoD change - I've got a team build that's built around that elite and I'll have to see if it functions any differently now than before. I think a couple people on Guru have toyed around with AoD team builds in the past, so we should have a few people who actually use that elite to weigh in on how tangible the changes are (meaning, whether it's a buff or nerf).

Leech change is silly but I don't use it so... oh well?

I have to find some way to inject emotion into my posts. Else I come off as a robotic know it all, which would make winning arguments too easy :P

Seed of Life sure is great when its not working for 80% of the time. Now, if you were talking about AP monks you might have a point.

As for the rit lord, Rejuvenation + Recuperation is merely 20 HP/s, and Rejuvenation dies really fast under pressure leaving you with only 8 HP/s. Life is only 7 HP/s and so very cumbersome to use that it almost doesn't count.

4x AoD 1x AoM 3x OoU MM happens to be the most lulzy imba build I've run. And don't diss hitting things with Scythes, all you need to do substantial damage with a physical weapon is AoE hits + buffs.

I wonder what will be the other extra item...

Maybe something like a huge stack of festive items? A gift box that might spawn a miniature or other stuff a-la Nochila's gift?

Probably the ones who would need the festival items the least are the ones who have played long enough they have all the hats. Personally, I hope it is something really amazing. Frankly, the 7th year bday gifts were a big let down. I would like to see those long term players get something really fantastic that they can enjoy for one year before the rest of us start to catch up.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to finally getting that tengu hat.

That will not work. Festival hats are customized to your character and you can't take some other character's festival hat and show it to the festival hat maker.

At least ANet is smart enough to only allow one hat per account per year.

I wonder if Kagno has the same restriction, of 1 hat/account/year, as Sun Li. Maybe if I can get 500 Victory Tokens I can get 1 past Dragon Festival and a Tengu hat at the same time?

So they are putting hats into a maintenance mode and letting us know there won't be any new ones. All in all not a horrible way to leave things off instead of just repeating the same hat over and over forever.

Firstly, Heals Per Second is stupid, because those heals can be delivered in more effective ways than AoD. I've already explained that comparison to which you did not understand. Seed of Life is the ultimate panic_button in most situations (see: the deep, DoA, general PvE, etc.) The reason monks are the kings of party-wide healing (ER eles still beat everyone for single-target heals and prots).

Rit Lord raises the Spawning and Restoration levels by +4 and over half-recharge on spirits, equalling 19 Restoration. This gives you: 12hps from Rejuvenation, +4hp Regen to ALL_ALLIES and a random 180hp party-wide heal from Life, which can also be terminated early since the recharge is halved, giving a minimum of 90hp party-wide. All this while also providing spot heals and effective bodyblocking spirits which can tank sturdily thanks to 16 Spawning.

You're scrutinising one function of the AoD build and ignoring everything else, or the lack of everything else, then flaming a much better build.

My guess at the 'extra' item for those who have all the hats will be a relevant rare mini. E.g. a canthan one for dragon, Polar for wintersday, MKG for halloween. /Dream

"whine this whine that" wtf is wrong with people, only complaining about opinions and thoughts, and call it whining
calm down a bit

i think its good enough, 1 hat per year

i hope i can trade these tokens, so my 2nd acc can get me a tengu mask (i was there at the time, but no idea what was going on) but i dont count on it

and we got a response from a dev glad stephane

as for "they arent working on GW anymore" thats not true, if they werent, GW would have no updates, and we got several for a while now
skill updates and such will stay

well, since i bought factions CE for the wrong account, i can now get that 1st dragon mask on my main, lol
i put factions on wrong account to see how it worked, afraid something bad would happen if i did something wrong to my 1st account.... so no CE on my 1st account either, lol

well, thx anet, you sure are nice to those who werent there (whether their account didnt exist, or they couldnt be there cuz of reallife)
this is a nice move if you ask me

Do you remember that time when you played Pokémon and you had to decide between the Helix Fossil and Dome Fossil? I totally did when I saw that picture.

I'm just wondering about two things:
  • Will the tokens be tradeable?
  • Will it be a new quest?

“This isn’t just a change that we’re making for the Dragon Festival, but also for other hat-related festivals going forward. What it comes down to is simply that, moving forward, we aren’t going to have art resources to make new hats for festivals anymore. At some point, we had to consider a break with tradition and put out the first festival that doesn’t include something new.
All I want is the Demon Mask, Witch Hat and Jester's Cap.

I didn't say other builds were bad, I said AoD was by far the best ally/party wide healing available. 40 HP/s or 20 HP/s with +100 armor. Other builds can't match that party support. If you are creating a party to abuse insanely high ally-wide healing then AoD is literally your only option.

HP/s is by far the best metric of party healing. If you have a better one please state it, don't beat around the bush.

Spirit build optimally adds up to 29 HP/s. Still not even 75% as powerful as AoD in HP/s, and the majority of it doesn't apply to allies. Then Life sucks ass to use, Rejuvenation dies (bodyblock with it and let it die faster? Makes sense), and your healing can end up gimped horribly.

Hmmmm, rereading......

Kagno will also offer an item for those who already have all the hats he carries.

...could mean that he has an alternate item anyone can choose instead of a hat rather than an item only available to those who have already unlocked all past years' hats.

If so, I take back my hope for something spectacular for long time players and hope it's something mildly interesting instead.
